Portfolio of Past Projects
I came into upholstery from an Interior Design education and background. In 2013, when I signed up for my first 40 hour “Bring Your Own” class, I asked “What do we do with the rest of the time once our piece is finished?”…one of the instructors probably thought I was an idiot but kindly said, “Start on another piece, I guess!”. I brought a rolled arm storage bench and still wasn’t finished with it after completing the 2nd 40 hour class that I signed up for. I tell this story for anyone interested in learning the trade to not be intimidated and also to know that it’s going to be way more work than you think but this is where it could lead you.
I’ve worked for 3 different shops around Austin since then doing a variety of jobs from residential to commercial and was skilled enough to learn on the job. The trade needs dedicated workers more than ever, if you are interested in learning and making this your livelihood, the time is now. If you just want to check out some of my previous work, before I started Chaise Noir, you’ll find a sampling of the residential furniture below. There are so many pieces that didn’t get final photos so you’ll find some progress shots, as well.
